Value for Value is the idea that you offer value out into the market, and people can then choose for themselves to contribute if they feel they benefit from the material someone offers. It's entirely voluntary, and current estimates suggest only 4–5% choose to contribute. Many have grown used to being able to access podcasts, videos, music, articles, blog posts, and so on "for free" — but the price you typically pay is your attention, in the form of ads, for example, and most often also giving up your data and privacy.

The Value 4 Value model breaks with the previously familiar "freemium" models and has been warmly received by many of the people who also value freedom technologies such as Bitcoin and Nostr. New V4V offerings keep appearing, and this page links to a few examples. The best known are Podcasting 2.0 and Nostr.

"Enogtyve.org" is another example, where there's no model for making money or covering costs like hosting. If you feel it provides value and want to contribute to the initiatives, you can send some sats to enogtyve@getalby.com or check out the support page.

What is Nostr?

Nostr stands for "Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted Over Relays" and grows out of the idea of creating as simple a protocol as possible — one that works for anyone with internet access but that, unlike well-known social networks such as Twitter/X, cannot be censored.
