Bitcoin circular economies
Bitcoin circular economies around the world — places where bitcoin is used in everyday life.
Since Laszlo Hanyecz bought 2 pizzas for 10,000 bitcoin from Papa John's on 22 May 2010 — making the first real, well-known purchase paid for with Bitcoin — Bitcoin has increasingly been used as a means of payment.
In Berlin there was a bar called Room 77 that became known as the first physical business to accept Bitcoin as payment, back in 2011. One of the regulars developed the first Bitcoin wallet for Android at the time, and the visiting Bitcoin enthusiasts tried to get the surrounding shops to accept Bitcoin as payment.
Today there are larger circular economies, such as Arnhem — also known as "Bitcoin City" — in the Netherlands, where you can pay with Bitcoin at many of the local businesses. In Italy there's a town called Rovereto that has become known as Bitcoin Valley. Here, a large share of the business owners are willing to accept Bitcoin, and reportedly for a time you could even pay your taxes with Bitcoin.
You can also see a map of all the businesses where you can pay with Bitcoin at BTCMap.org.
